CHIP drastically lowers the uninsured rate among children—Republicans just let it lapse
The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) currently provides healthcare for 9 million low-income children and expectant moms.
Why then, are Republicans failing to reauthorize it?
Is this how they intend to run our healthcare system?
Is this the beginning of Trumpcare?
What I do know is that this display of gross incompetence and malice is a perfect example of what is wrong with the Republican-controlled congress right now—and is further evidence of their brazen disregard towards America’s most vulnerable.
Since CHIP began, the uninsured rates among children in this country have plummeted from 14% to 5%. This is a huge drop. The last thing we should be doing is reversing all the progress we’ve made on behalf of our country’s children and families.
If Congress does not act soon, 4 million women and children will lose their coverage in the next few months, including 200,000 women and children in Florida.
We cannot let this happen.
We need to stand together and push back against this destructive agenda.
And we need to work together and get these extremist Republicans out of government ASAP.
